Is Islam Misunderstood? A Discussion For The Objective Only

Hopefully this thread shall be populated by comment from posters of bryan's ilk only and not populated by the usual copy and paste brigade (the oinkers) who bring nothing new to any debate. To them I say: we shall read your links on other threads if we wish to but please do not pollute this one with your grime!
In one way the answer to the lead question is no; that is because not many know anything about Islam therefore, they are really not in a position to be confused.
However, I do understand that it is confusing when people are proclaiming that Islam is the Religion of Peace on the one hand, whilst on the other, they are calling for the destruction of Israel, performing various atrocities such as suicide bombing and in some quarters referring to all Christians and Jews as pigs and monkeys.
For anyone who has read the entire Qur'an properly and has a grasp of the historical context to which it pertains (and this can be gleaned from Pickthall's translation and accompanying introduction) they will know that Muslims should not behave as described above. Such behaviour should be abhorrent to real Muslims and it is to me. In my case I would say briefly that although I have been a Muslim for more than two decades I am still reading and learning and trying to grasp what it is all about but I am sure that the Qur'an is not a template for world domination although many Muslims do act as though it is- I refute their position and in my own personal and family life will have nothing to do with such dogma even if it is expounded by some who are close to me. Every time I am confronted by an extreme position taken by others I challenge them to produce their proof: i.e. a quote from the Book and every time they are unable to do so because it does not exist.
